CCPS calls for privatization of the CBC
Press Release
Wednesday, 12 October 2011
OTTAWA - The Canadian Centre for Policy Studies today released a discussion paper calling on the federal government to privatize the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
"Selling the CBC will not only save taxpayers $1.16 billion per annum (3.6% of the projected deficit in fiscal 2011-2012) it will also raise revenue that can be applied to the debt," said the paper's author and executive director of the CCPS, David Krayden.
“If there was ever a justification for maintaining a state broadcaster in Canada, that day has long passed. Today Canadians have many options to view Canadian programming. The CBC is no longer needed to fill that roll.”
