I pulled this quote off a blog from the U.S. The old saying "If it bleeds, it leads" comes to mind.
"In a perfect world, the news would air the Colorado shooting at the end of their programs as an RIP message with a single sentence noting that the primary suspect had been apprehended.
But the news-media is a business, and a psychotic killing sells because that's what the purchasing public buys, and the will of the market has become a higher god for us than any traditions of class. We are the problem. The commodification of every corner of life is the problem. There's no room left for moral ambition and responsible self-restraint. The news brainwashes all people into irrational fear, probably including the recluses on the edges of society and sanity."
Has the will of the market become a higher god than traditions of class? Or is this old news?
