While reading that article, I thought back to BCiT's "Creative Copy writing" evening class and Bill Smith who guided us through the basics of that skill... He was a master at creativity. His was the mind behind "I like the girl at check out number 3..." Super-Valu " jingle along with the lucky logger beer commercials and Harrison Hotel advertisements that ran on TV in the 60's and 70s.

There is another change in radio in resent years... placing business "A" who sells widgets in the same break with business "B" who also sells widgets of a different brand... at one time there would have been some separation between business "A" and business "B".

The Girl at checkout #3 and Lucky (is the beer, beer drinkers drink) Lager jingles were terrific and bring back great memories.

The article however, has no value at all. Unfortunately, the suits will use it as another way to badger creative departments into producing bland crap.

Regarding my comment about separation of like sponsors...

BCiT instructor Doug Short would hand out a blank log page and a separate page containing a list of features, commercials, news, weather and sports.... among other eateries....

The object of the exercise was to create a log with separation of commercials features etc.

Too bad Doug iShort and Bill Smith aren't around to enlighten today's breed of "broadcasters".
