Maybe Canada could follow Australia's lead!!

This was received from Dean Hagopian, in my view, one of the best jocks to have graced the Vancouver market with his presence

Subject: Fw: Fwd: Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law]

You have to admire those Aussies

This is true and can be checked at:

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to
get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head
off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to
Australia and her Queen at a special meeting with Prime Minister John
Howard, he and his Ministers made it clear that extremists would face a
crackdown. Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard,
hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if
they did not accept that Australia was a secular state, and its laws were
made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country
which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you",
he said on National Television
I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws
governing people in Australia: one the Australian law and another Islamic
law that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent
courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to
go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better
option", Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said
those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other
country. Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that
Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off.
Basically people who don't want to be Australians, and who don't want, to
live by Australian values and understand them, well then, they can
basically clear off", he said.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying
he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired
of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or
their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a
surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians."

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the
'politically correct' crowd began complaining about the possibility that
our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I
hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to
Australia ." "However, there are a few things that those who have recently
come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand."
This idea of Australia being a multi-cultural community has served only to
dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. And as Australians, we
have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own
lifestyle."

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials
and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom"

We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese,
Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of
our society .. Learn the language!"

Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing,
political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian
principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is
certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God
offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your
new home, because God is part of our culture."
We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that
you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us."

If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like "A Fair Go", then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are
happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't
care how you did things where you came from. By all means, keep your
culture, but do not force it on others.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you
every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining,
whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or
Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great
Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'."

If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You
asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted

Maybe we should all chip in buy you a website. www.johnsykeshates.com

What'll be your next beef? Maybe they shouldn't allow blacks into your world of sports?

Maybe instead of the website, we'll all chip in and get a gift certififcate for a date with Dr. Kavorkian for you.

Oh, and who is this Hagopian joker? I've never heard his name mentioned by anyone who has any knowledge of Vancouver radio. Was he famous back in the 30s or 40s?

Does this thread have anything to do with SPORTS or even RADIO for that matter?

Ok if we don't have any radio history lets have a bun toss.

A few facts

About 2 percent of the population of Australia is Muslim
Less than 2 percent in Canada
3.75 percent in America

On a world scale most muslims live in north africa or the middle east
Christianity has 2.1 billion adherents to Muslims 1.5 billion

Are muslims causing problems in the world? Well I ask you who is bombing who at the moment? Is terrorism what we are doing - fighting in a foreign state, killing the natives, for the benefit of world capitalism?

Come on Jack, we are defending our way of life, bringinig democracy to a world that doesnt like it.

While I am ranting - can I ask why the most powerful nation on earth has all its currency backed by the Chinese Communist government.

Why is the US economy going into a tail spin and Canada's is not.

Whoever wins the next US election - I hope it will mean a breath of fresh air around the world - we need a break from bush Bush!

Ok thanks George for keeping me safe in my comfortable bed for the last 6 years since 911

I agree with every word!!! About time some politicians grew some balls and told everyone the way it is.

LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT plain and simple.

If that stand is politically incorrect, so be it. Thousands fought for the way of life we enjoy and people with no respect for life are trying to shove their bs down our throats. I've had enough and I can assure you I'm not alone by a longshot.

Well, Axey, you ARE in Alberta.

Incidentally, Cat, Dean Hagopian was at CFUN in the early 70s. It might still have been CKVN then. Can't say I ever listened to his show.

Jack, are you happy? I posted. Now it's back to doing other things.

Hamas pressing Gaza Christians to become Muslims

The Hamas rulers of the Gaza Strip are pressuring local Christians to either become Muslims or leave the area, according to Palestinian officials who spoke to Middle East Newsline.

The charge comes less than a week after reports revealed that Gaza's top female academic had been abducted and forced to convert and marry a Muslim man.

Sana Al Sayegh, who was born a Christian, remains the dean of the Science and Technology Faculty at Palestine University in Gaza City. Her Hamas-affiliated university colleagues were reportedly behind her abduction and forced conversion.

In a further sign of Hamas' intent to create an Islamic state in Gaza, the group has offered to reduce prison sentences by one year for any inmates who grow a beard in compliance with Islamic law and memorize at least five chapters of the Koran.

A mere 2,000 Christians live in the Gaza Strip amid a Muslim population of 1.5 million. When Hamas seized control of the area in June, one of the group's leaders warned that local Christians would have to submit to strict Islamic law.

When I first saw this title, I thought the discussion would be about the CRTC chairman's recent review of Australia's media ownership laws, which restrict concentration of ownership by calculating the number of different owners of media outlets in each market.

But, to address the topic being discussed, if you take away all the inflamatory language, the Aussies are just stating the obvious, aren't they? No Canadian government would allow a religion in Canada to enforce their own rules if doing so would violate an actively enforced Canadian law. Most notably, capital punishment for any crime (defined by a religion) would be considered Murder and the people involved arrested and charged with Murder.

In fact, Canada actively gets involved in other countries where religious groups try to enforce their own law that Canada feels is grossly unjust. Like the capital sentence for the unmarried but pregnant teenage girl in Africa who had been raped.

Yes, indeed...Dean was with CKVN as morning man from 1970-72....he was huge in the east but sadly, no one understood his humour out here. Typical!

I worked with an ex wife of Dean's in Calgary at QR 77 in 1992. I think her name was Shirley and she was filling in for Susan Booker.

Wasn't Susan Booker once married to Brenn Traff?

Yes.
Still will never forget the "best house party ever" thrown at their Kits apartment in August 1979. Ask Stu Ferguson how many times in a row we played "Bad Case of Loving You" by Robert Palmer. To this day, I'll never figure out why the cops never came knockin'.
