Postby Dan Sys » Fri Mar 02, 2012 9:30 am

A public hearing will be held on May 7, 2012 to deal with 22 applications for 88.1 in Toronto. Everything from Alternative Rock to Christian stations have been proposed, existing stations CKFG-98.7, CIRR-103.9, and CHOQ-105.1 want to relocate to 88.1, CFZM-740 and CJBC-860 want nested repeaters. All the details are here:

Ryerson is the one I am watching. Not that I believe they will necessarily win, since I have not (yet) gone through their application documents, which are also linked from that CRTC page that Dan provided.

Quality of Application by Ryerson will definitely matter, but the bigger question in my mind is whether Ryerson's past history on the frequency will be held against them or be a strong legacy advantage for them. Especially given the extreme arms length relationship that existed in the last few years between Ryerson and the now defunct station.

All that said, I can have nothing but admiration for the Ryerson students for having the guts and doing the hard work to put together the application knowing full well they would be up against the 20-odd competitors we see today. Admittedly, neither I nor they would have predicted the CBC would also be in the fray.

I think Ryerson stands a chance. As does Intercity.

I don't see one of the new commercial etrantants getting it.
