HALIFAX - A Nova Scotia meteorologist and broadcaster will have his name in one of the world's most recognizable record books after predicting the weather for more than half a century.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation's Peter Coade marked 50 years as a meteorologist in June, 2013.

It has earned him the Guinness World Record title of longest career as a weather forecaster.

The 70-year-old says he's had a rewarding career and is thrilled with the designation.

Coade started working for the federal government's weather service in 1962 and later took a job with CBC television.

He later moved on to Halifax-based ATV, which is now CTV, where he worked for more than 15 years.

He then re-joined the CBC in September 2007 and is currently CBC Radio One's morning meteorologist.

The previous record holder was Dave Devall of CTV Toronto, whose career spanned more than 48 years.

Congratulations are in order.
Halifax had a legendary Weatherman named Rube Hornstein, who, all those years ago - ended each cast - chucking his chalk in the air and he never missed the catch.
There must be something in the Maritime air - that means longevity.

Here's another option, hag: Maybe there's something about a union shop.... :bag:
I still remember CBC's Percy Satzman - writing backwards behind a plexiglas weather-board and covered with chalk dust at the end. He also tossed his chalk and caught it after making of himself a right proper mess.

Percy was great. you nailed it.

I tried being a TV weatherman, and man, did I S U C K. Great ones, like Wayne Cox, Saltzman, Hornstein and other made it look easy. NOT.

My fave-rave weather guy is Tom Reynolds who works weekends for The Weather Network. More friendly than our local pieman and a knowledgeable Pro.

Loved Percy back in the day but never worked with him.
My nomination for best weatherman was the late Bill Matheson, who was a newsman, weatherman and talk show host at CJOC radio in Lethbridge and weatherman and on camera commercial guy at CJLH/CJOC TV, then went on to NYC as a weatherman but never got on the air due to union problems, then went to Edmonton where he did talk on CJCA and weather on one of the local TV stations, now swallowed up by the corpse. He also did the weatherboard thing with magic marker and was a riot to watch and listen to. He also was much more accurate in his predictions than EnviroCan.
