Corus Trying Alternative to Nested FM Repeater in Toronto

From Dan Sys' Canadian Radio News Facebook Page:

AM 640 TORONTO HD RADIO INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO

Now that CFMJ AM 640 in Toronto is available on HD (via CING 95.3 HD2) an interesting HD instructional video has appeared on the stations website.

IBOC is providing AM 640 in Toronto with a way to reach its listeners who are either in a Null of its directional patterns, or blocked by large buildings, of which there are many in Toronto, even in the suburbs.

Of course, with the lack of easily available IBOC radios in Canada, Corus is currently limited to newer cars that have IBOC ("HD") radios installed either in the factory or as part of an after market entertainment system.

But it is an idea that could address the coverage issues of AM stations and, in my view, the only thing that might save "HD Radio" from going the way of AM Stereo in Canada.
