Changes in Cornwall, Ottawa, & Trois Rivieres

Postby Dan Sys » Tue Feb 15, 2011 4:01 pm

Yesterday saw two changes worth mentioning occur in Eastern Canada, with a third set for next week.

In Cornwall Corus flipped ROCK 101.9 from Active Rock to Oldies-Classic Hits. The heritage CJSS
calls are now in full use, much like sister station CKWS in Kingston (complete with the yellow 45
RPM adaptor in their logo):

In Ottawa-Gatineau Cogeco flipped CJRC 104.9 "Souvenirs Garantis" Oldies-Classic Hits format to
a Hot AC CKOI clone. This seems to be Cogeco's strategy for some of the Corus stations that
they recently inherited as CHLN 106.9 in Trois Rivieres will also be dumping Souvenirs Garantis
for the generic CKOI format this coming Monday.

It's cool that the CJSS call letters live on. Those calls are also associated to one my favourite kinds of broadcasting stories: the defunct TV station. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJSS-TV

Also, see this site for a great story with too-tiny pictures about a long-gone TV station. http://www.brainmist.com/wjjy_tv/wjjy_tv.htm
