Pics: Edmonton Broadcasters Club Luncheon

Postby jon » Sat Apr 24, 2010 6:51 pm

One day after Red's RPM Lunch in Vancouver, the Edmonton Broadcasters Club had their semi-annual luncheon. As in Vancouver, a great price meant a great turnout. And we got a group shot for the first time in years:

So far, I've only got one other picture -- of our speaker, CFCW "lifer" Jackie-Rae Greening, who had them rolling in the aisles -- but I'll be adding more pics as I get them. Here:

Sorry I had to leave early, would loved to have stayed for the picture. Some well known radio and television names were in attendance. It is always interesting to chat with some of those who were part of the 'biz' when radio and televison were in their prime. And the Stories that Jackie-Rae told of Wes Montgomery brought back many memories.

No, assuming you mean me, I'm the guy blocking the view of Marty Forbes. Sorry, Marty. I didn't know.

Really nice to see Keith James, Jr. in attendance. Perhaps his first time. Far right on the front row.

A lot of the faces look familiar to me. Any chance of posting a list as to who's who, Jon?

Thanks

Names

Postby jon » Sun Apr 25, 2010 9:48 am

Here is my first try at naming those in the picture. Sorry that I missed so many. My memory is not what it used to be.

Front row, L-R: Jackie-Rae Greening, Randy Lemay, Bob Coe, Patrick Cardinal, Shane Blakely, Jim Tustian, Keith James Jr.

Second row, L-R: Mark Byington, Al Girard, Gordon Skutle, Kiviaq, Irv Shore, Jean Paul, Alex Rankin, Frank Dolphin, Murray Blakely, Dolores Schmaltz

Third row, L-R: Lyndon Olson, Joe Meyers?, ?, Royal Harris, Bill Borgwardt, Bev Munro, ?, Bob Peterson, Larry Langley, Jim Gerlock, ?, Greg Schmaltz

Back row(s), L-R: Greg James, Ann Wilson?, Bob McQuay, Alex Holownia, ?, ?, ?, ?, Marty Forbes, me, Garnet Anthony?, ?, ?, ?, Luther Haave

Question mark right after a name (before a comma) means that I'm not sure if I have the right person. ", ?," is a placeholder when I don't know a name.

Obviously, I'd be happy to have any updates, corrections, etc.

And, I should also mention that quite a few had to leave before the picture was taken.

Larry Langley sticks out like a sore thumb and looks so healthy.

Glad to see him in the pix - I worked with Larry at CBC Edmonton 30 years ago and he turned his fame into a city councillor's seat.

Larry Langley

I was shocked to realize that it has been 18 months since Larry entered hospital. Under pretty major circumstances, at the time:

But, as you can see, he is doing very well now.

That was the same problem at Red's get together.
So many people had to leave early and missed the group shot.
It started at 11:30am and didn't start winding down until 1:30pm.
By that time, a lot of people were no longer there.
Taking a shot at the beginning, after the opening remarks, would have worked better.

NS: Not enough washroom breaks in there.
Some of us are getting pretty old and decrepit (unless some are cheating and wearing "Depends.")
