Gawd... speaking of things that have changed in radio... mentioning "Craven-A Music Till Dawn" reminded me of the spot run for the 6 hour show. There were six spots per hour, three pre-produced on cart and three live spots. The live spots, believe it or not, consisted of actually lighting up a cigarette... and inviting the listener to join you. Times HAVE changed.

The earliest CKXL Top 40 chart I had was from the spring of 1967. It was mimeographed (purple print) on a blank 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper.

At the top where a logo would be printed on a piece of letterhead was a small black, yellow and green sticker with something like "CKXL 11-40, The Talk Back Station" and a phone
or handset on it. The first printed Double Your Pleasure survey I saw or had was from December 67 or January 68.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

That was a REALLY early chart!! There was no real plan to publish a chart (or a budget for one either) but the demand was there, so Dave Lyman simply wrote one up, our receptionist cut the stencil and ran them off. After a few weeks we started doing them on station letterhead with the well-known black and magenta logo. The real printed surveys started sometime in the fall of 1967.

Much earlier in this thread, 26 September 2007 to be exact, Radiofan posted a scan of an image taken from Star Weekly magazine.

Well . . .

Here are five more from that photo session, in colour - http://klixpix.photoshelter.com/gallery ... l1GYekTzZk
