Where did that 2.8 share that CFUN got last time go? FUN FM's demise most certainly didn't benefit CISL or JACK.

I'd love to see the spin that the Sales Weasels at Rogers put on the less than stellar debut of Sonic and the drop in Jack's numbers.

On the FUN FM death watch, we were told we wouldn't like what was going to be there tomorrow morning. By the looks of it, most people agreed with them. They were hoping all the former FUN-FM
listeners would gravitate over to Jack. They didn't.

You had a station that pretty much had the Oldies audience all to itself. Poor decision by the programmers and a ridiculous music rotation kept people from listening and thus piss poor PPM results.
All that was needed was a bit of tweaking. The station was on in more stores, offices and restaurants around town than QM has ever been heard in. Since the demise of FUN, I can honestly say I
have yet to hear Sonic anywhere. I'm hearing The Peak in several places, The Shore in some along with QM-FM and JR-FM in others.

Whoever thought Vancouver needed a third CHR station? It truly amazes me that a company full of one time great programmers along with an army of over rated consultants can't get it right. It's
no wonder the local programming team can't get playing forty hit songs over and over right. Hell, they couldn't get numbers playing former familiar huge hits.

Time for some changes on Ash Street.

It looks like CKWX has had the nicest bump in share over the past couple of years, despite the nightime interference of a Spanish station out of Portland.

The Shore seems to have recovered from their second dip in early 2011. Hopefully their current crop of morning and evening drive shows will push them over 2.0 going forward. I would hate to see this station replaced with a boring oldies/classic hits format next year like Fun FM.

Slowly but surely, the Peak seems to be gaining traction and probably does fine in their target demographics. They should do even better with the signal upgrade to 100K watts at 102.7. They must be satisfied with this format in Vancouver given that Pattison is trying for the same format in Calgary.

Jack seems to be in a longer term decline and had no ratings bump with the loss of Fun FM.

With only a .2 separating NW and QM-FM, I'd say QM will be number one in the next quarterly report. The Christmas music will put them over the top by a couple of share points.

A one-two punch from QM and CBU could drop NW to #3.

Granted the 2+ numbers don't really mean squat, they are still a good indicator of what's going on in the marketplace.

If we were privvy to the 25-54 and other age group rankings, I'm sure NW would be down near the bottom of the pack.

Looks like the Lions pulled Team 1410 out of the ratings cellar and CISL now appears to be terminal.

The way I read this is, finally it's the beginning of the end for good old CKNW. The lead dwindles book after book. Next book, watch for QM or CBC to be on top.

With 3-million Canadians subscribing to Sirius/XM Satellite Radio (that would be 10% of Canada's population), it's a SHAME these ratings do not reflect how many people were listening to Sirius instead of the terrestrial pablum that passes for quality radio nowadays! And don't give me that "oh I highly doubt that satellite radio would register a blip on the PPM meters" crap. Between people in their cars, on their computers and in their workplace, I'm sure Sirius/XM has its share of devotees.

Based on a Metro Vancouver population of 2.1 million, divide that by 10% being Sirius subscribers...that would be 200,000 potential satellite radio devotees. Now I don't know how that would break down in the 2+ PPM ratings system, but I see enough cars on the road with the little satellite radio roof-mounted attennas to know they HAVE an avid audience. You corporate hacks wanna know what's missing on the radio dial??? Try listening to Sirius 70s on 7 or 80s on 8 sometime...you'll get the idea. Boss Radio lives!

Slight correction to my #s. 1.8 million Sirius/XM Subscribers in Canada...that's 6% of the population. So that would make roughly 125,000 subscribers in Metro Vancouver alone. Still a sizeable chunk of the potential listening audience tuning OUT terrestrial radio.

Locally, here in Edmonton, I've heard radio execs describe satellite radio subscribers as "the cream of the crop" listeners, in the sense of the most desirable demographics that regular radio would really like to be delivering to their advertisers.

Too bad that there are no studies of how that "cream of the crop" would fair when faced with differing lengths of spot loads as regular radio listeners were in this study: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10988

Admittedly, nearly all satellite radio listeners also listen to regular radio.

Yeah but how much of that 6% of the population received complimentary satellite radio when purchasing a vehicle or getting it through some other kind of perk? I know of several people who received satellite radio this way and have no intention of renewing it once the free service runs out.

Dan makes a good point. Relatives got a year free Sirius when they bought a new Dodge van a year ago last summer.

They listen to a lot of "radio", period.

I wish I could find the study from a couple years ago, but it showed Satellite listeners listening to just slightly less AM/FM radio than the population as a whole. They're big consumers of pre-progammed content (as opposed to on-demand [iPod]), largeley due to long commutes.

The one study by Arbitron that attempted to merge Satellite listenership into their regular AM/FM surveys gave Satellite around a 3-5 share (depending on the market size) of overall listening, with the Talk, Sports, and Comedy (including Stern) programming being the most listened to. Stern alone was getting around a 1 share in markets where he had FM history.
