Vancouver PPM ratings 12+

Welcome to the cozy world of Canadian radio. Everybody has their own little turf that they get to milk for big profits without having to try too hard.
The problem with NW is that they don't do anything well any more. News? gave up that ground to WX. Sports? go to 1040 for that. Talk? CBC thank you very much. They are a mediocre station that is going to wind up like KGO in SF. I think it's too early to pass judgement on the Bro Jake morning show ratings wise but I predict good things. Russell must be helping CISLwith their overall numbers. He should get Brooke Ward to do Fri/Sat instead of letting him die on the vine at NW. I guess maybe they don't get along personally which is why he brought Lee Powell along instead.

Those are pretty good numbers overall for CISL. 2+ they outrank The Shore, The Peak and even 1040. How do you explain that?

Greg Douglas column on the 1040 numbers...

I'm confused by the Douglas analysis of the 1040 numbers in this morning's paper.

http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Jake+morning+show+Team+1040+posts+gain+with+Vancouver+radio/9259649/story.html

On the one hand I see that the cume for 1040 is somewhere around that for the traffic station but on the other hand I see that management was celebrating this "book". Where does the truth lie or is there no "truth" in this data? Just where can I find more detailed data?

Personally I've found myself switching every now and then to listen to the Jake show on my drive to work but I'm hard pressed to find fellow listeners. When I question former station listeners about this the reply usually contains very strongly worded opinions about Jake and Dave (typically containing the words "can't stand so-and-so").

Yes, it's hard to say. But don't 1040's numbers always jump in the fall when hockey starts? Plus you can't compare this past Fall to Fall 2012 because there was a lockout and no one was listening to sports radio. I suspect this ratings book is a little underwhelming for 1040. Time will tell I guess.

Again, 2+ numbers tell you nothing.
You need the male/female/age range figures to see who's really doing well and is able to sell the product to sponsors.

The best we can publish without getting a call from the BBM is what's above, and quoting David Bray:
Vancouver: CBC Radio One grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with an 11.4% share of hours tuned (up from 9.7% last time out). Taking the top spot for F25-54 was QMFM posting a 14.2% share (up from 13.5% last time out). QMFM also holds the lead for M25-54 listeners, delivering a 10.6 % share (up from 9.3%). QMFM is out in front for M18-34 with a 14.7% share of hrs. tuned followed closely by the FOX with 14.2%. When it comes to Females 18-34, The Beat takes top spot with a 21.6% (up from 18.4% share in the last book).

David also has a nice table at http://www.brayandpartners.com/articles ... -2013.html

Dan Sys just sent me a link to a Bell video that provides a lot of the demographic numbers. Use the slider to move to the market of interest:

I notice they left out a Calgary station in the day part reviews. Let the punchlines begin!

Thanks for the link. Quite the steep drop in the CKNW morning show numbers A18-54...from 7.2% to 4.3%. The Peak also appears to be on the downward slope as well.

3700 people have lost their jobs in Canadian media in five years.

Let's bring in more people from Australia, that know Vancouver so well, instead.

Thanks, CORUS!

Oy, vey.

Hey, let's not be xenophobic about it (though you definitely won't like the rumour going around that CKNW is about to sign Rolf Harris to take over the morning show).

I agree with Hag. There is no excuse for Corus bringing Aussies in to work at Canadian radio stations. Considering the number of people out on the street it's shameful.

After looking at the Breakfast shows results you really have to wonder how long NW can hold onto Jolly Roger in the morning. A few years ago they had some talent who were covering him somewhat but all are gone now. He is doing more harm than good just hanging around. Regardless of his contract they have to get him out of there.

By the way the Rolf Harris thing is a joke right? Right?

I'm sure the 3700 Canadians that lost their jobs, find the jokes just hilarious.

Come on, show some empathy.

Yes, the Rolf Harris thing was obviously a joke. We can still laugh at this ridiculous business can't we?
