Anyone who tells me rap is music is an idiot in my book!
ha... there is a statement. No Canadian top 40 station plays much "rap."
I'd agree that a bumping Oldies station could and should exist (when I pay off my Visa I might see about buying an AM transmitter on the internet and squatting on an abandoned freq). I DJ weekends at a hipster lounge in downtown Victoria and I punch up quite a bit of Mo town, soul and funk in my set and it gets a pretty magical response. No radio station plays these "hits." Maybe I'm not understanding oldies radio or I don't listen enough, but there could be a place for my classic music on the radio. The few times I punch up 650 AM, there is nothing going on... an infomercial or a Beatles brunch or something. There is so much more going on. I love playing a an oldies set, and the 50 year-olds come up asking me "what artists are you playing?" They grew up with the music and don't even know it all or know it, but can't place the artist because there is no one presenting it. my other favourite is "you weren't even born when this wa son the radio, how do you find it?" uhhh wikipedia helps. One guy came up to me on Saturday night and said, "you should have a radio show." good times. I do!
