It's totally apparent that Rogers has the wrong person programming FUN FM. Look at XL in Calgary or Capital in Edmonton, both those stations are huge.
This station should be keeping company with QM-FM, JACK and The Beat. Instaed, it's trompled on by the CBC, CISL, JR and News 1130 and others.
FUN FM has to be the laughing stock of the Rogers chain. If this station was a fire hydrant, dogs wouldn't even piss on it.
I think we can consider the backwards FUN FM logos on the fronts of buses to be a marketing failure.
Another market embarassment has to be Virgin Radio getting soundly beat by automated AM sister station CISL. I guess it takes more than a "brand" name to be successful.
To anyone in the business - could you explain why the Team 1040 took such a hit? No hockey, no listeners? What about football on 1410? It seems that by these numbers, both Team Radio stations are not very successful.
And yes, I too am very disappointed with the FUN format. I know guys like me, in the early stages of 60, remember with great fondness the wonderful days of C-FUN, the fun bug, the swinging men from 1410, and the great sound emanating from 4th and Cypress (?). One would think a move to recreate that sound, even during the AM and PM drives would result in huge gains in the market.
Well, explain how an AM music station continues to grow in the ratings? They have obviously taken all of the AM 600 strays, but still 5.8? Pretty good, though again, 2+ has to be the silliest ratings demographic going.
When you breakdown NW's 12.2 into specific demos, some of them pretty attractive to advertisers, they start to post some less impressive numbers. That's been discussed before here though. This from someone who's caught maybe 2 hours total of their daytime programming in 2 years,, so I'm not really qualified to comment on what they're up to. Still maintain there is an awful lot of listening by rote going on there.

NW had a tough book - outside of mornings. FUN FM is no fun and Latremouille sounds like Halifax, where he and Murray Brookshaw belong. The whole market is jaded. The shore is finished, but I think, as a former outright dismisser of the execrable Peak...they had a decent book. They should kill off 730 am and also CFMI and CFOX need a revamp. This will be the cluster to watch. Mack will chop and add his cronies. Say goodbye to Hollywood.
There are good people working there, but they're working in the wrong format.
Latremouille Jr., IMO, will always be best suited for AC and Pam Stevens was great on JACK, because that was the music she grew up with. Neither of them sound comfortable, to the point where they sound interested with oldies.
I'm still at a loss as to why, from a programming point of view, Murray got rid of Scott Miller. Here was a guy who had actual experience working successfully in oldies formats. But he received, as far as I can tell, no support from management. And don't get me started on the 'kids' that are voicetracking the rest of the day.
