Capital-FM (CKRA) deserves some attention. Though Sonic (CHDI) slipped in between them and UP (CIUP), Capital actually narrowed the gap (0.5 to 0.3) between themselves and UP.
The problem isn't so much in their number -- a 7.2 is a very respectable number in this market -- it is on the Sales side. Just how do you differentiate yourself enough from newcomer UP to not have longtime advertisers decide to cut their Capital advertising volume in half, and give the other half to UP?
JOE-FM faced the same problem first with Capital-FM, then NOW and now UP. And they no longer even have the ratings numbers to help them out. If it weren't for the Corus "cluster buys", I'm sure they'd be in dire shape.
Speaking of Cluster Buys, it is interesting to look at each Cluster's combined numbers, since that is what Cluster Buys would be sold on (as well as specific Demographics and Time Slots):
- Corus - 26.7
- Astral - 11.0
- Rogers - 11.8 plus whatever CKER (World-FM) has
- Rawlco - 16.9
- Newcap - 17.9
