This Book tells me everything I wanted to know, that being: "XL" has maxed out. They've shot their wad. They've blown their load. The breech is empty. They have hit the wall.

From here on in, the Programmers will be riding the Talent (that is: those without iron-clad contracts) hard with the intention of squeezing another ratings-point out of them. That kind of treatment always comes with consequences - and they're hardly ever satisfying.

But, and in the meantime, I'm also sure there's a circle-jerk going on over there anyway as being either #1 or #2 is all the National advertisers consider.

Now, the speculation can be about how long it will take to screw it up.

Isn't the PD also the morning talent on XL? I doubt if Don Stevens will be firing himelf.

I don't think a 0.2 drop in a month is really anything to worry about.

With the on air staff that UP in Calgary launched with, I don't think XL has a lot to worry about.

I have 2 issues with up!:
1) The 10-20 second backsells and frontsells they tend to have. As a personality you are supposed to ENTERTAIN the listeners. That isn't really entertainment.
2) How they have backsell - show splitter - continue talking about what they were talking about before the show splitter. up! and NOW Edmonton have it as backsell - show splitter - show topic, and they execute it perfectly. I know Calgary is in their beginning stages still, but after being on air for a few weeks... you would think they would have it figured out!

Although shultz93 may not have intended it so, the (above) tends to suggest that executing The Holy Format - as sanctified by Gawd and Dawg - a little better... will have some positive impact on the fortunes of UP.

Meanwhile, what's a Vancouver-based PD doing running Calgary's Q-107? CORUS has the #1, #7 and #9 stations. "QR" has consistently delivered the same audience for over 20 years - no matter who owned it.

Q-107 has been in the tank for way too long and "Country-105" has no excuse for its position given the traditional and contemporary potential of a Modern Country station.

From my understanding, it's the consulatants that have driven Country 105 into the dirt. Q107? Maybe it's time for a stronger line up? I know DiMonte is taking alot of the cash, and that is apparent after the morning show ends. Just a thought.
