CKWX 24 Minute Day

Postby radiofan » Tue Apr 08, 2014 10:48 pm

Bud McNeeley posted this on the Radio Folks Facebook Site. A treasure he rescued from the CKWX dumpster when they moved from Burrard Street to Ash Street.

From 1978, a 24 minute audio profile of a typical broadcast day on Super Country, CKWX 1130.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

That was fun,and great to hear the veteran lineup. Really enjoyed hearing Jim Fraser again; always thought he sounded so much like Freddy Latremoulle. Newsman David Cassidy voicing the script?

It was Dave Roughan doing the first half Rod Serling impression, then Gene Kern later. David Cassady was in the piece a couple of times from airchecks, but not narrating. A lot of great people in there... and too many gone.

Beauty!

Interesting how the sports sounder has the same musical logo as the first CKWX News 1130 cuts from the Jam "Data Seek" jingle package.

Supercountry CKWX was always boomin across Western Canada at night and even in the day on cold winters.Such good memories and a relaxed laid back sound from that era.Great lineup and household names like Red,Bob Bye,Elmer, and Jim Fraser. Although not much a country fan,I still tuned in to hear the air staff from WX1130.The signal/frequency still powerful to this day in Saskatoon.

Thanks, RF. It's the classic line-up I remember.

There's even a clip of Taanta on Parliament Hill.

Cam can remind me who Bernie is.

That was Bernadette Holdsworth... who was one of the copy writers and did on air traffic for a while. She went on to promotions, then became promotions manager at KVOS for many years.

There must be something I'm not seeing, but I can't seem to get the audio to play.

donovan... It seems to take quite a while to load. The first time I watched, I had the same reaction, but try it again... with patience... :-)

What a great trip down memory lane ... WX Super Country as I remembered it!

Brings back the days when I used to listen to them in Oregon.

The clarity of sound is excellent

Too bad we don't have more studio recordings of radio from that era.

Lots of memories of many people.
