Cool 8-80 20/20 News

Postby jon » Sat Sep 08, 2007 3:14 pm

On September 4, 2007, CHQT Edmonton became "The Boss", while still including much of the Cool 8-80 imaging. One major new feature was 20/20 News during Morning Drive, at 20 minutes to and 20 minutes after the hour. Ed Mason and Bob Layton shared the 20/20 News duties, while continuing their Newscasts every quarter hour on CHED.

Hear Bob from 8:20 a.m. on Friday, September 7th at http://www.radiowest.ca/sound/chqt20200709070820.mp3 (3:21, 4.7 MB)

And Ed from 8:40 a.m. that same morning at http://www.radiowest.ca/sound/chqt20200709070840.mp3 (3:28, 4.8 MB)

You will also hear Chuck Chandler handling the transition back to music after both Newscasts. And Daintre Christensen with chopper traffic. Don't miss the sound effects or music clips in each Newscast!

I kinda liked the excerpt from Arthur Brown's "Fire" best in Ed's newscast. But, as a fan of the "it's all about the music" movement in Radio in the 1960s, I also liked the aforementioned tie in between the current date and a song that was a hit on the same day in history.

Ed and Bob both sound great with the 20/20 news. The candle atop the icing on the cake would be the whole Drake jingle package.

I have the top of the hour bed from the Drake package as a ring tone on my cell phone.

I am surprised at the music selection. They seem to be chasing men, as the music has a real edge to it. Cuckie even played some of the real edgey Steppenwolf. Aren;t most of the stations going after guys? I thought many national buys were made with women in mind. Has that changed?

I still like the old AM 880 CHQT 'Major News' music better. But that's just me.
