In late June of 1986 Calgary's CHQR moved from 810 to 770 on the AM dial. The new identity for the station was QR-77. Mark Goodman and his crew created the QR-77 jingle package which included a 2 minute song that was played every couple of hours for the first few weeks that QR was on 770. (It counted as can-con, so there was a little less Anne Murray and Lightfoot for awhile!)

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Remember listening to this song in AM Stereo.

Didn't QR also have a big countdown weekend to coincide with Canada Day? Top 770 with Greg Haraldson and (was it?) Fran McKay hosting or was that the shortlived weekly countdown show?

The Top 770 of all time kicked off with Norm Edwards and Dave Rutherford after Mayor Ralph Klein officially launched the new QR 77 at 7AM.

The top 770 was played 2 or 3 times from June 26th thru July 1st with all the regular jocks.

Just looking at the top 770 brought back memories of the number of days, evenings, weekends I spent carting up those songs , and then recording the whole list of songs to casette for a contest.

I think you're right about Greg and Fran voicing the short lived 20 to 1 countdown on Friday afternoons.
