Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

When I first worked at the CBC in Radio in the early 1970s, I remember how in awe we all were of how Has It Happens and This Country in the Morning had finally delivered some measurable ratings for CBC Radio -- their first since TV came on the air. CBL Toronto was then able to expand those listeners into PM Drive by moving Harry Brown from As It Happens to local Toronto PM Drive host.

Still, it would have been hard to believe then, let alone when I observed the CBC in the mid-1960s, the numbers that CBU and CBU-FM are delivering today. We are now at the point where it is conceivable that CBU could knock out CKNW from #1! Even from here and now in Edmonton, that seems like an alternative universe someplace.

Despite the music changes, to see CBU-FM tied at #3 is truly amazing.

Hmmm. AM73 All Traffic has soared to 0.8. Must be just about time for a format change.

I see the trend of falling ratings has ended for Philip Till

We all can return to the Top Dog for our A.M. entertainment

Or....what am I saying?

I think Jon is right - the CBC has something that a lot of people are listening too.

The rock stations will not react will they?

I don't have access to BBM ratings by daypart, but Broadcaster magazine is reporting "seven CBC Radio morning shows now ranking #1 in their markets".

And specifically quotes Calgary with a 14.6% share, Vancouver with a 15.4% share, and Victoria with 17.1% share. Other #1 rated morning shows are in Toronto and Ottawa.

I wouldn't hazard a guess as to NW's morning show numbers, other than to be safe and say it has got to be single digits.

At the rate CISL is falling apart, two books from now they'll be fighting AM 730 for the honour of being the newspaper in the bird cage.

Maybe Astral will counter Corus and turn 650 into an all weather, all the time station. They could feature on air personalities such as Sonny Boy, Lil Miss Sunshine, Stormy, Kevin Purple Rain, Jack Frost and Cumilus Cloud.

Another great venue for broadcasters of tomorrow.

Standard and Corus should, perhaps, merge the two stations and then simulcast them on both frequencies. And then split the profits.

The joke in Edmonton is that Skywords, who does the traffic airplane reports for Newcap, is asking for a hybrid Blues and Traffic format in their application for a new FM license. So, why not a hybrid Oldies and Traffic format?

One local wag even opined that Traffic and Blues go together.

Those CBC numbers are "incredibly" high, and I do mean
INcredibly.

They're perfectly credible to me. Music radio is subject to much more impact from technological fragmentation than talk formats. News, Talk, and Spots had great books across the country, and they're only going to get better.
