On Radio: Two local shows join lineup of KTBK-AM
By BILL VIRGIN
P-I REPORTER

Locally based radio hosts and shows jumping from one station to another isn't a new phenomenon in the Seattle market. Bob Rivers, Andy Savage and Robin & Maynard are among those who have moved their shows to former competitors.

What's different about the latest occurrence is the segment of the local market it's occurring in -- Spanish-language radio -- and that the move involves not one but two shows.

KTBK-AM/1210 plans to add two local shows to its lineup beginning Monday: Jaime Mendez's "La Voz de Washington" community affairs program will air 2-3 p.m. weekdays; Mendez is also an evening news anchor for KUNS-TV/51, the local Univision affiliate.

Mario (Zuper Mario) Rodriguez's program that combines music, conversation and the Clasificados (listeners call in with items to buy and sell) will be on 4-7 p.m. weekdays

Rebecca Lambert with Bustos Media Seattle, which operates KTBK as well as KDDS-FM/99.3, says the two are the first local shows for Bustos in the Seattle market. KTBK also carries Bustos' Ke Buena regional-Mexican music format.

Mendez and Rodriguez had been on KKMO-AM/1360 until September when that station's owner, Salem Communications, made the switch from its Radio Sol format to the El Rey regional Mexican format, also carried by a station in Portland. KKMO carries the nationally syndicated Eddie "Piolin" Sotelo show in mornings, but management says it plans to add local programming at other times of the day.

In other radio notes:

The Sunday edition of Jim French's "Imagination Theatre," heard at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on KIXI-AM/880, includes a new Sherlock Holmes adventure.

"Voices of Diversity" at 6 p.m. Wednesday on KBCS-FM/91.3 looks at the issue of personal bankruptcies.
