Quite often last night China National Radio on 945 kHz was strong enough for a faint voice to be heard. It faded in and out but a couple of times it strengthened to an excellent level. I got lucky when one of these excellent fade-ups happened just before sunrise at about 1457 UTC (0657 PST) and lasted a minute past the top of the hour. I heard the time pips and the "Zhongyang Renmin Guangbo Dientai" ID with excellent clarity.
A few times I heard a second program beneath CNR but it wasn't strong enough to ID the language. It wasn't English though. The time pips I heard had a weak echo, suggesting that the weaker station was also CNR but a different program.
There it is: Proof that China can be heard in the Lower Mainland if the ionosphere cooperates.
