CJJR 93.7 No longer broadcasting in Stereo?

Postby Nighthawk » Mon Nov 17, 2014 7:00 pm

I have noticed that for the past few months I have been receiving CJJR in Mono. It is interesting that I can receive a much cleaner signal from 94.1 KMPS (same format) yet it transmits from much farther away. Kinda embarrassing I think. Has anyone else in the lower mainland area noticed this or is it just me? I know broadcasting in Mono would result in the signal reaching farther so I am wondering if this is intentional.

Mono? I don't think this is anything I have ever heard of before.

How odd.

CJJR is five by five here.

Yes Mono. Instead of broadcasting a stereo signal it is broadcasting a mono signal. The little ST designator will not show up when tuning this station.

JR is indeed broadcasting in mono. Best guess is that the stereo encoder is shot, or perhaps stereo encoding in a UHF-based STL transmitter or receiver is blown. I would imagine this will get replaced or repaired at some point

Ok so it is not just me. I noticed it a few months ago. I read this forum sometimes but never got around to signing up. I signed up finally so I could mention this about CJJR. Pretty rare to see such a high powered FM station broadcasting in Mono. First time I have ever seen it. I wonder if the engineers or the station even knows?

PS: intentional or not I am sure that since they are broadcasting in mono their signal must be usable at a much farther distance now. For instance fringe areas now must enjoy easier listening. The locals however not so much.

Well now it appears that the stereo signal has been restored! It had been broadcasting in mono for months. Now after this post came up suddenly it returns to stereo? I wonder if perhaps someone over there at CJJR is reading this board?
