CBC's Lamont Tilden Dead at 98

Postby jon » Sat Aug 13, 2011 9:36 pm

Lamont Tilden may well have been the last of the CBC announcers from the 1930s to pass away. He died at age 98 on August 8th.

Longevity runs in the family as Lamont celebrated his brother Bill's 100th birthday on February 28, 2009.

Sadly, not a lot written about his death. But I did find a 40 minute television special done live on CBC TV on the day of the death of John F. Kennedy, which was hosted by Lamont Tilden:

Interesting to see him on TV, as he was famous for his work on radio.

I never really looked into it, but I had previously guessed that Allan McFee was the last of the CBC announcers from the 1930s. McFee died in 2000. The CBC was formed in late 1936.
