..Try something different than Hawaii where everyone goes.... If you want isolation.... and disconnection and have one of the best beaches in the world to yourself check out: http://www.eleuthera-map.com/ and for some great forums: http://www.bahamas4u.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8. No, this is not Nassau.. this is one of the out islands. Home rentals are also available on VRBO.com.

Just offerin' some pretty attractive alternatives to the NORM! :bag:

Bahamas are lovely - but man, that is a long day of travelling. Maui is closer - but I can see how Eluthera is a fav. The place is beautiful. To each, his own.

Cheers and happy trails, whatever you choose.

Travel gets to be a hassle and you wind up spending a few expensive vacation days, jet lagged. That goes double for cross Pacific travel. Hawaii is a few hours diff, but not too painful. Kihei and other areas like Honokawai will save you a few bucks.
Maui is special.

It may seem like a rather weird change of events, but I've decided to head for several weeks in the Florida Keys.

I had a heck of a time finding a place in Hawaii that didn't require moving every few days and other considerations.

So .... radical change of plan. I'll be driving through SW Ont to see some relatives, then through the US and visit some more relatives, then down to the beach and rent a boat for a week or two, then some general layabout time.

Pave ... maybe I could stop in and see you and Mrs Pave before crossing into NY state and checking out my old summer plantation home in Kendall, NY.

..well you are a very short plane ride from my recommendations of Eleuthera - many direct flights.. http://www.discover-eleuthera-bahamas.com/air-travel-to-eleuthera.html!

I may get my way with you after all!

Some good forums available at http://www.bahamas4u.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8

Shh... don't tell many people about this place though...

AWG - heh - sounds like a plan. Hawaii is hard to get last minute, at times.

Have a blast.

Note to AWG (Average White Guy): Sure. Lemme know when you're heading through... and I'll arrange to be out of town! I mean, there's nuthn' more fun than waving "bye-byes" to a guy heading for beaches, boats, the sun and Jimmy Buffet tunes. :carrot:

Well .... no Buffet ... too white for me to listen to recreationally Bud.

I'll be the one with the annoyingly loud booming base from the sub-woofer playing The Marvelettes - Don't Mess With Bill .... LOL.

http://youtu.be/7zheAzJgXH4

Further, I'll be singing the back-up vocal segments .... about 3 octaves lower while slapping the steering wheel.

Once that is over, as I hit the highway, it'll be Aretha with "Freeway of Love ... http://youtu.be/Ip_pjb5_fgA

Who knows .... I may even end up in the Bahamas for a little while.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.

I was thinking about what might have been for Anotherwinnipegguy when I spied the headline for this article:
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Thr ... story.html
Three Albertans saved in dramatic sea rescue off Hawaii
I thought they were a leisurely small boat trip near one of the Islands.

Well, it turns out they were piloting their own sailboat that left Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for Hilo, Hawaii, a distance of about 3300 miles.

One of the good things about sat nav and new fangled gear, sailors get lucky. But,a small yacht and a container ship and swells and, kabango.
Most scared I have ever been in my life was taking a yacht from Phuket Thailand to Bali. The shipping lanes were terrifying, day and night. You make such a small blip on the big ships radar, and zappo. No one takes a turn on the wheel, without lots of coffee and, the binocs at ready and brain alive.
Glad the crew is safe. Scary, as heck.
