US vs. Them

All the more reason for people as close to the border as we are to spend our money in the US.
Cheaper everything, wider variety and much better service just a half hour away.
Was in the Superstore tonight and they had a bin of recent pocketbooks with the sign: 40 per cent off Canadian prices.
On the back of the books, US price $9.99, Canadian price $12.99.
Our dollar, as pointed out by Steve above is just under a dollar three cents US.
Same as gas prices.
When the cost of gas goes up, they can raise the price in seconds.
When the cost goes down, it can take weeks for the prices to drop.
We have stopped buying anything but fresh food in Canada.
If we need to spend on staples or canned goods, we buy in the US.
With lodging prices at 30 bucks a night and cheap gas and food, you get a vacation and a lot of savings by going south of the line.
48 hours stateside means $400 bucks each duty free.
That's a lot of savings.
The only way to teach the Canadian and Provincial governments and greedy retailers is to stop buying in Canada.
They keep jacking up prices for whatever reason while leaving the working poor at 8 bucks an hour in wages.
And don't expect any help from the NEW premier.
More of the same is what to expect, more lying, more cheating, more fraud.

Much to my surprise, I just learned that the minimum wage in Washington State is $8.67 per hour.

Uh oh!

I see a mass exodus from the local media scene.

Highest of any of the 50 states and still I hear conservatives moaning how it's a key reason for slow recovery and is driving business out of Washington state (it isn't. Amazon just hired a bout 900 staff in Seattle and Boeing just won a huge military contract away from Wisconsin.)
Most other U.S. states are running 7.25.

Hey Sandy, I had no idea the Canadian dollar was so strong against the American; haven't been keeping close track.

It would also be interesting to know what the average cashier with, say, 8 years experience makes at a Safeway in Lynden versus a Safeway in Abbotsford.
