A quiet day in Canadian broadcasting history, so we look elsewhere in the world:

In 1919, one of North America's best jazz announcers, Al "Jazzbo" Collins, was born in Rochester, N.Y. He is best known for creating the Purple Grotto program on WNEW New York City, but he also worked at WIND Chicago, WINS New York City, KMET Los Angeles, KFI Los Angeles, KLAC Los Angeles, KGBS Los Angeles, KSFO San Francisco, KGO San Francisco, WTAE Pittsburgh and WIXZ McKeesport, Pennsylvania. He died September 30, 1997.

In 1999, Radio Free Kosova first signed on to the FM band, broadcasting for a few hours each day beginning at 3:55 p.m. It was run by the Kosova Liberation Army.
