NEW REGIONAL CBC NETWORK APPROVED
Regional CBC Radio One network based out of Kamloops utilizing the existing facilities of CBYK 94.1 and end the simulcast with CBTK 88.9 from Kelowna. Stations in the new regional network will include:
CBYK KAMLOOPS 94.1
CBYU Alexis Creek 93.7 FM
CBWA Ashcroft 860 AM
CBYO Barriere 104.1 FM
CBKM Blue River 860 AM
CBRZ Bralorne 1350 AM
CBKS Cache Creek 1450 AM

CBYZ Vavenby 91.9 FM
CBRL Williams Lake 860 AM

CBUC 96.9 Salmon Arm was slated to be part of the new network, but the CRTC received several interventions (including one from the city of Salmon Arm) stating that Salmon Arm is more economically and geographically tied to the Okanagan than it is to Kamloops. As a result CBUC
will remain a CBTK Kelowna rebroadcaster.

Despite last weeks 10% budget cut to the CBC plans for the new network in Kamloops will proceed. It is likely that proposals for future production centres (with regional networks) based out of Nanaimo and Chilliwack will be put on hold for now.

DENIALS
NB Bathurst 96.5 50 watts (Community/Classic Rock-Blues) (Ferguson Audio) (rejected because of the applicants apparent misunderstanding of what a community radio licence should entail)
QC Laval 1570 CJLV Add 40% Multilingual programming (rejected due to possible negative financial impact on existing Ethnic stations in the Montreal area)

CRTC APPLICATIONS

PROPOSED TECHNICAL CHANGES
ON Windsor 99.1 CJAM Increase power from 456 to 1,007 watts (2,084 watts Max. ERP) and raise antenna height

Thanks to the latest round of budget cuts by the Conserative government with the CBC, maybe this new BC network in in BC will need to go on pledge break each spring and fall much like in the US to try and break even or bring in money for the budget. I do think that an adequately budgeted, good radio public radio broadcaster like the CBC can be a at least a good alternative out there to all the mundane private sector commercial offerings available in Canada. I guess the corpoate broadcasters are loving what this government are doing.
