Metro Chilliwack has about 80,000 people and only one local radio station, STAR FM (CKSR) at 98.3 which from what I understand is voice tracked from the Rogers Vancouver building for most of the day. A new local voice is something this market is in dire need of. Something like the old legendary CHWK 1270 which truly served the community in its day.
This situation really came to light last Fall when Rogers wasn't interested in carrying play by play games for the new WHL Chilliwack Bruins. Those games ended up on the local 10 watt tourist info station.
I don't know all the groups that will be applying, but the "Call For Applications" was set off after the CRTC received an application from Golden West. This would be their first venture outside the Canadian Prairies and they have reserved the CHWK calls if approved. I also heard that Vista will likely be one of the applicants as well.
