NOTES
In early February Newcap's CKKY 830 in Wainwright,AB once again applied to flip to 101.9 with 57,000 watts (100,000 watts Max. ERP). This application was withdrawn on February 26. My thoughts are that possible interference issues with CKER 101.7 in Edmonton led to the withdrawal. CKKY's original FM conversion application in September, 2008 was denied due to the CRTC's common ownership policy.

Once again interesting radio news Dan. I used to get CRTC info. in the mail, then checked it out at the library in Canada Gazette or went down to the CRTC offices to get updates. However with the great info. you are providing each month it sure makes things easier!!! I have a couple of questions though which you might know or someone else reading this might. Is CFHR FM -96 Hornby Island, B.C. on the air yet, it was months or several years ago they were licensed at 5 watts with a developmental license and so far nothing I can find has updated their current status. Anything on the net including their website seems to be old 3 or 4 years old! Another station I*ve been wondering about is CKPM FM Port Moody 98.7, have not heard a peep about them recently! I*ve been through Port Moody and Coquitlam 4 or 5 times in the past 6 months and no sign of them on-air. Also went onto the Pemberton station CFPV FM (I think those are the calls) and couldn't seem to find anything on the websites, they were just blank! Wonder if McBride Communications is having problems lately??? I did not check out the Tofino or Uclulete atation websites lately. Before all 3 stations had quite a bit of info. on their websites.

Ann (Mrs. CFAY) mentioned she heard from friends that Pender Island might be getting a low power developmental station at 5 watts. She heard an older gentleman had applied for one there recently. She worked at the summer camp there years ago and knows people who still go there. I haven't read anything about it in local gulf island brochures etc. I*ve gotten recently though. Hear anything about this one Dan??? Thanks again for CRTC info Dan, well done! Mrs .Cfay Says Thank you .

CHFR 96.5 Hornby Island has until June 26, 2010 to become airbound. I too can dig up very little information on the Hornby Community Radio Society and if they still have plans to get this station operational. I did manage to find a Facebook page for CHFR, but there's been no activity on it since April, 2009. The Industry Canada database still lists the station as "authorized".

CKPM 98.7 Port Moody has until May 30, 2010 to hit the air. There were several reports late last year that McBride Communications was teetering on the verge of bankruptcy resulting in virtually all the staff at their 3 existing stations being turfed. No idea what kind of implications this will have for Port Moody.

Haven't heard anything about a new developmental station on Pender Island. There has been no formal application to the CRTC as far as I can tell. Perhaps Sky Valley Radio might know a bit more as Pender is just a stone's throw from Salt Spring (using a rather large slingshot, of course).
