Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1966 ... An early one from The Guess Who ... "Clock On The Wall" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

To garage rock buffs, the Quality Records era of The Guess Who presents plenty must-listen-to material. Clock On The Wall turns up a few times each year on one of my favourite pleasures...Garage Grooves on CFUV 101.9FM in Victoria. (Friday nights live and streaming; archived for a week.)

It took awhile for Burton Cummings to develop as a songwriter and frequent Randy Bachman collaborator. Until then, Randy served up a steady stream of solely written songs like this.

Shakin All Over was famously recorded after hours on a tv soundstage that belonged to the company Bob Burns reportedly worked for. I do recall that the renamed Guess Who cut some future singles in Minneapolis. Not sure about Clock On The Wall’s recording circumstances. But it sure sounds spooky and definitely sung with attitude by Master Cummings who was probably still not of legal age.

Finally, anyone know if Bob Burns is still alive? Jamie Anstey recently posted on Facebook that Burton’s predecessor, Chad Allan, is making some recovery from a serious stroke...and can again speak.
