Kim Mitchell’s one and only Billboard charting single, Go For Soda was given awards by abstinence outfits such as Mothers Against Drunk Driving. During his prior years in Max Webster, Kim no doubt witnessed and possibly partook in copious drinking and other recreational diversions.
Never found out if Mr. Mitchell and trusted lyrical sidekick Pye Dubois became teatotallers. More likely they adopted an everything-in-moderation outlook.
Always whippet thin, Kim survived a serious heart attack several years ago. But he’s still a frequent presence on the retro rock circuit. I saw him a year or two back at the Saanichton Fair near Victoria. Lots of fans singing along to the Go For Soda chorus. But not as many as joined in for the even catchier Patio Lanterns.
