How different Canadian rock history might have been if Looking At A Baby had succeeded Stateside.

Unlike most Vancouver '60s singles that only garnered local airplay, it charted well across Canada, even going Top 5 on CHUM Toronto! In the US, however, nada. It didn't even enter the Billboard Hot 100. Produced in LA by Barry DeVorzan for his Valiant Records, it had the same layered-vocal appeal of labelmates The Association. Story has it that the relocated Vancouverites could well have been given a similar moniker, The Connection, except that DeVorzan proferred a second choice, The Collectors. Assuming he still had the indie promo guys who broke The Association, what happened?

Just a guess, but Valiant ended up being bought by Warner Bros-Seven Arts just about that same time. Perhaps DeVorzan was preoccupied with the buyout and Looking fell through the cracks. But then why didn't Warners include it on the first Collectors album and re-release it before or after Lydia Purple? Anyone know more about how it perished? Maybe just bad luck. But strange that it didn't at least poke around the 80s or 90s of the Billboard chart.
