Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1973 and was the first hit single for Scrubbaloe Caine ... "Feelin' Good On Sunday" ...

To my ears, this catchy country rocker predates the similar sound of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

In any event, Feelin' Good was a great single from a band whose main members were coming from or heading to more noteworthy ventures. Bassist Jim Kale joined shortly after exiting the Guess Who. Guitarist Paul Dean graduated to Streetheart and then Loverboy. Singer/violinist Henry Small replaced Ron Tabak as lead vocalist for Prism. With Henry aboard, the Vancouver band scored its biggest US hit Don't Let Him Know. Although fame eluded him, pianist/co-vocalist Al Foreman became a respected piano bluesman across Western Canada.

Henry Small now, and for a few years now, a resident of Kamloops and one half of the Stan and Hank morning show on CIFM.

Musical greats don't disappear...they move to Kamloops! Last I heard, Tom Northcott had also put down roots in the city. And I do believe Terry Black spent his final years there before he passed. Next time I'm visiting, I'll listen to Henry's show.

Prism had a fair kick at the big time. But like their predecessor band, the Seeds of Time, they were a quarrelsome bunch. Sadly, original lead vocalist Ron Tabak died in a bicycling accident a few years after the band splintered. I seem to recall Prism guitarist Lindsay Mitchell, looking back on their career, noting that Henry Small was temperamental but, also, the finest vocalist he'd ever performed with.

The current version of Prism includes only one original member, Al Harlow.
