My favourite Van Morrison and Them song actually improved when Kenny and the boys lovingly reanimated it. One can always wonder if Streetheart would have relied on fabulous cover versions if Paul Dean hadn't exited after Streetheart's debut Meanwhile Back In Paris.
No matter. We're left with audio memories that will keep Kenny Shields' presence going for as long as Classic Rock radio continues in Canada.
PS: The original five members did reunite in 1993 and the recording is still available through the group's website. Even before that happened, there was a great staged photo of Kenny and Paul--with clenched fists--appearing to challenge each other. At that point Paul (and ex-Streethearter Matt Frenette) were conquering the world in Loverboy. For its part, Streetheart was doing great up here. Another original member, Spider Sinneave later joined Loverboy after their bassist drowned at sea. The other original Streethearter, keyboardist Daryl Gautheil stuck with Kenny.
Condolences to all past and present members. Biggest sympathies to Kenny's family.
