Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Beginning with One Fine Morning, Lighthouse relied on American producer Jimmy Ienner to harness their disparate voices and instruments on studio recordings. Pretty Lady, released in 1973, emerged from the Can You Feel It album sessions at The Record Plant in NYC. It would be their final hit of any consequence. By then, Skip Prokop had begun sharing main mics with Ralph Cole as marquee lead vocalist Bob McBride was out of the band. Skip would leave Lighthouse the following year.

Producer Ienner grew his own profile during those Lighthouse years. He added Grand Funk Railroad, The Raspberries (with Eric Carmen) and Three Dog Night as clients. The latter covered one of Skip’s songs, I’d Be So Happy, for their 1974 Hard Labor LP. The tune first saw life on Thoughts Of Moving On, the Lighthouse followup album to One Fine Morning.

Skip was one of the many rock personages to pass away this year. A great songwriter, decent singer and whirlwind drummer.
