Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1978 ... Before he was a Much Music VJ, Christopher Ward had a few hit songs ... One of them was "Maybe Your Heart" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Wonder how the years have treated Christopher Ward? He and fellow MuchMusic JD Roberts were the resident hunks on Canada’s rock video network. JD dropped the initials, became John Roberts and began reporting hard news...eventually for CNN and, more recently, the FOX News Channel. Christopher went on to co-write hits for Alannah Myles, especially her global #1 smash Black Velvet.

Back when Chris himself was a recording artist, he sure sounded smooth. If Maybe Your Heart or his other CanCon single Once In A Long Time caught on Stateside, Chris could well have parlayed his dulcet tones and good looks into becoming a Vegas fixture. But then, maybe Alannah Myles would have remained a complete unknown.

Maybe Your Heart’s co-writer, Stephen Stohn, became a bigwig behind Degrassi: The Next Generation. After the Alannah Myles windfall, Ward went on to host talent shows and kibbitz with Mike Myers. I never saw the third Austin Powers movie, but Chris is part of the Ming Tea band that complements a rockin’ Agent Powers in key scenes. Other bandmates included Susannah Hoffs of The Bangles and indie singer Matthew Sweet.
