Vancouver Summer 08 S3 BBM 12+

Regina and Saskatoon Numeris 12+ Diary Ratings

Postby Jack Bennest » Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:03 am

You have to ask why does BBM detail the 12+ figures for the public. My answer - they must have some validity.

Why do radio message boards use 12+ figures - because they can't or don't pay for the service of book numbers. Same with newspaper reporters and commentators.

Salesmen and Managers buy a 'book' which has all the breakdowns so that they can explain to a "bra" shop on Kingsway that more teenage girls just coming into puberty listen to Dr. Laura so they should place ads at 9pm. And many bra shops must do just that as CFUN somehow is still on the air.

If you think MOJO Traffic is a significant force in modern corporate radio then your 'extensive' experience on the air and in the broadcasting business is showing.

Hey Top Dog - F.Y.I. AM 730 has never called itself MOJO Traffic. MOJO was it's name when it was talk and sports. Have you ever listened to the station? I highly doubt it.

Get back into your little news cruiser and go chase ambulances and fire trucks. Disecting ratings along with anything that has happened in radio in the past 20 years is way beyond your grasp.

Yikes is Top Dog ever getting slammed today. Guess that's the price he has to pay for not showing up at the RadioWest gathering this past weekend.

Keeping silent

Postby johnsykes » Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:14 pm

Anyone noticed I have stayed away from any mention of the ratings? And I shall continue to do so. I, too, don't understand anything to do with that subject....hell, I can't even understand the so-called differences in juke-box radio....i.e. CH, AR, The Beat, Crave, etc. I did notice Jack-FM is down somewhat.....does that mean a change to TOM-FM next month?

If The Peak launches on or about November 1 as most are predicting, then AM 600 will go dark around February 1. Most AM stations that flip to FM in Canada (including AM 600) are allowed to simulcast for 3 months.

As for The Peak, a fellow on the Seattle board who resides in Bellingham figures that he heard them testing on 100.5 a few days ago. I`ve been checking a few times a day since reading his post and haven`t heard anything.

Why you tearing strips off of Dog Bishop? Have you ever sold air time or do you get your information from hanging around the bosses office? "super delivering your target" WTF does that mean? Is that something you picked up at a Tony Robbins seminar? The reason 12+ numbers get quoted is that's all BBM makes available to the public for free The numbers are worth what Radiowest paid for them but it is a general way of comparing how a station is doing especially if you compare it to the same book from a year ago.

Considering that you are working drive on a station that is getting it's butt kicked I'd suggest you concentrate on being talent and leave real ratings analysis to the professionals.

Actually on the Broadcaster Magazine site today there is a story about the BBM's which goes into a bit more detail. It shows figures for women and men age 25-54 (scroll down about half way for Vancouver):
http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/issu ... e=10082008
According to these figures JACK FM is really the only Vancouver station that has equal appeal to both sexes.

As for Top Dog.....I propose that next years RadioWest gathering be held in Oliver. There shouldn't be any excuses for him not to attend.

The only drawback with that is I hear that the pubs in Oliver still haven't quite caught up to the 21st century yet. They have segregated "Ladies & Escorts" and "Mens" sections, as well as the red terrycloth round tables (with a salt shaker on each one). The waiters still wear white shirts with bow ties and greet you with a "what'll it be Mac?" and the Todd's Reddi-Hot Cubanette is the most popular item on the lunch and dinner menus.

And draft at 25 cents a glass! That's how I lived in Terrace on 400.00 "1972 dollars" a month and still managed to stay drunk half the time.

o Dan - those pickled eggs.

You take me back to a time when beer was 10 cents a glass at the Empress on Hastings

and Sparky I think Jon's response was far more intelligent. Yes I have listened to MOJO Traffic - that's my name and I shall acclaim it so forever or until I call it 'Sparky' Traffic on your AM dial.

I didn't spend all of my 15 years in a beat cruiser but I did get to meet the finest broadcasters on the west coast and wouldn't give up working for CKNW CJOR and CBC for the world.

And we really don't know which island station you work/worked for - do we?
