I don't think I have heard that before. Was it given any airplay?
I wonder if it would be 'banned' in today's politically-correct society.
Well done Mr. Reiter!

The person who was Music Director at CKNW and CFMI at the time has confirmed "Injun Jim" was played on both stations.

Guyz
The title is actually "Injun' Jim Blues" (no "s" on Jim) but everyone refers to it as "Injun' Jim's Blues" and YES it did chart (only in Canada - where it was released on Skyline Records). I can remember it being on the playlists of stations including Red Deer, Alberta and Hamilton, Ontario(?). The expert who would know (along with the guy who keeps talkin' to hisseff) is the owner of Neptune Records - Mr. Kenny Harris - formerly of CKNW and now living and working in Bermuda.
The one thing that I haven't shared is a wish that it was still played as an 'oldie' in the city (and maybe that can be rectified?).

***NEWS FLASH***
Because I was informed earlier in the week by one T.W. that "Injun' Jim Blues" was going to be presented on RadioWestDOTca, I started work on what-is-now an almost completed YouTube video of the song. I am working with producer Jason Vanderhill (he is doing most of the trench-work) and, as I say, we are almost ready to present the finished product. And, I think you're gonna like this picture!
John McKeachie for many years threatened to produce a video when he was with BCTV but it never materialized. Now, because of the internet - the time is nigh. I am really happy that RADIOWESTdotCA provided me with the verbal impetus for my creativity.

Back again at 12:49 in the a.m. (and don't ask me, "whadya doin' up so late!" - Geez . . . you people are startin' ta sound like da wife!!
Anyhoo . . . I went to my 45 rpm collection (I can see the drool from here, T.W.) and here are the particulars -

Skyline Records # SKY 010X (BMI) 4:34 1976 Canada-Quality Records Limited
M/A/P/L
Full title is "Injun' Jim Blues (From the Musical "Olympiad")"
writers are; Pat Rose / Richard Ouzounian
Artist is; BILL REITER AND FAT BACK CAINE

On the left side of the forty-five it reads;
Pub: Kilravock Music / Hoadley House Music / Moosehead Music
Prod: Alex Downie at the Spot Shop
Remixed: Miles Ramsey at the Little Mountain Sound Company, Vancouver

Miles' surname is actually spelled with an "a" - Ramsay.

Don't ask about the "B" side - it was terrible - even though I've always tried to convince myself it wasn't. To that end . . . I'm not going to tell you the name of it.

Yeah, I might go down to the Ham. Of course I'd have to drive thru the Fern (Ferndale) and maybe continue on to the Vern (Mt. Vernon) and over to the Wool (not gonna tell you what that one is!!)

More "Injun' Jim Blues" trivia . . .
In his Globe and Mail article, Tom Hawthorn wrote there was a mention of the forty-five in a 1976 Billboard article. I wrote Mr. H. and asked him how he sussed the info cuz I had had no luck doing so.
He gave me the magic wand and I now pass it on to you - the gang in the tree (I see you all as club members hanging out in a tree fort).

In the October 2nd, 1976 issue of BILLBOARD MAGAZINE - JEANI READ (can't be another one) in an article entitled: 'Coast Industry Focuses On Its Uniqueness' wrote these words . . .
"Vancouver actor-director Richard Ouzounian and actor-singer Pat Rose collaborated last year on a musical revue called "Olympiad" which was produced as a stageshow, aired as both CBC radio and TV specials this spring and has recently resulted in a single record released by singer-actor Bill Reiter. Called "Injun' Jim's (sic) Blues" it is a tribute to American athelete Jim Thorpe whose remarkable gold medal performance at the 1912 Olympic Games was struck from the records when it was revealed that he had taken part in some semi-pro baseball games. The single was released in August on Skyline Records, distributed by Quality, and is receiving strong regional play." Note: the highlighting of 'is receiving strong regional play' is my pride showing and wasn't in the original.

So, thank you to Tom Hawthorn for sending me the extra info. Much appreciated.
Oh, and great hearing about the SkyValley play rotation! YES!!
