New Morning Show on fun FM

Postby radiofan » Thu Jul 29, 2010 3:59 pm

We’re pleased to announce a new morning show on 104.9 fun FM! Starting Monday, August 16th, Kelly Latremouille and Pam Stevens will ramp up the “fun” in Vancouver mornings.

Kelly has a ton of morning show experience from C100 in Halifax and has quarterbacked a ratings leader in that market. His great attitude and smile permeates the hallways of Rogers Radio Vancouver everyday.

Pam Stevens is a force of nature. Since coming on board to fill in for Larry and Willy on Jack and doing the afternoon show on fun FM, she has added energy and excitement to the building. Pam will bring a unique sense of humour and a great feel for Vancouver to our new morning show.

Please join me in thanking them both for accepting the challenge of building a successful, engaging morning show on 104.9 fun FM.

Program Director

This is a great pairing. Let's hope they're given some promotion so that those who don't already listen to 104.9 will know about them.

Maybe this will get Destro to change his mind, take a chance, and take a listen.

There appears to be something missing with this station. I can't put my finger on it, but it seems to be lacking soul. I tend to find the promos rather irritating and the playlist seems a bit too controlled. Maybe a proper morning show will help things along. It does appear to be doing a bit better in ratings than its previous incarnations. It has always seemed to be a station controlled by anal retentive forces. Clear-Fm for example was trying to be a smooth jazz station but was in reality trying to go after QM-Fm, turning off both smooth jazz fans & soft rock fans. Then it simply dropped pretenses & went directly after QM-Fm. The station always seems to be trying to play catch up, rather than creating something unique in the market. That does, however appear to be a wide malaise with Canadian radio at least, with maybe the exception of 104.3. One reason i now listen almost exclusively to satellite radio.

Radio by focus group. About as spontaneous as Barack Obama.

I'll save you some time, Destro. Just imagine every overplayed piece of crap you have ever heard, interspersed with annoying yammering. Now, you've got the gist - back to sleep.

I am astounded by the outright bitterness in some people on this forum. I realize that 'things aren't the way they used to be', but most people I know, are able to move on after they have been dealt a blow.
Harbouring it inside, as the above poster appears to be doing, is not healthy.

Within reason - posters should be able to express  their feelings on the subjects offered up. I think we all can filter out
those who are  venting. But to be fair even well known broadcasters like Red Robinson decry the sorry state
of the industry.

It is another time. Our time has past and we should cherish our memories, collect them, and revel in them. We will
not pass this way again.

Radio broadcasting is now for a new generation of people. I recently met a sales associate at a radio station. She is
under 30 and so eager to do a good job. She has the energy/interest I had when I broke into the Vancouver
market 40 years ago. I don't have that same kind of stamina anymore. :sad10:

Whaddup wi' dat, Jack!? Are you having a "moment" or just "one of those decades"?

Radio, to my mind, is a medium that, like a cache of diamonds lying beneath a ton of crap, has tremendous potential value, but only when one has dug through the dung.

Granted, there is little or no argument the medium has been starved out of proteins and is running on pure, sugar-induced carbs.

But, that's also The Good News.

When people - and likely, it will have to be senior people - take the position there may be other strategies available that have little to do with a return to the babbling, bad ol' days, the Radio-environment may respond quite well to another paradigm.

It's amazing how the energies and stamina return when a good idea takes hold.

Maybe what's really missing is: A Good Idea. :victory:

I think I agree with the energy filled Pave but...

Radio can be what it wants to be based on its owner and the direction of management. If excellant entertainment/information produced by talented staff is the mandate - we can have a turn around. I don't see it happening in my immediate future.

As to my stamina - at 64' ish - I cannot do what I did when I was 24 or 34. After a busy 12 hour day as a senior I can tell you I shut down my battery supply and rest for as many hours as possible until I jump out of bed at 5:30 am, test my blood and then rev my engine.

Smarter guys than me, Jack, have said something along the lines of: "Better to work smarter rather than longer and harder."

As of this moment, how that might apply escapes me, but damn! it sure looks good on paper. :sign3:

C'mon Jack. I'm not buying it. :)

Three and four decades ago you were far, far better at it than any of those in that age group who are doing the job now. Even today -- even if you only did it for a couple or three hours a day by digging up news stories from home on the phone -- you could still run circles around today's 24 and 34 year olds now doing the same job any day of the week!
