New PD at CISL

Postby flyonthewall » Wed Jul 28, 2010 4:27 pm

In the midst of enjoying a peaceful afternoon on the deck of the Boundary Bay getaway, the cell phone rings. It's an unknown caller
who turns out to be somewhere inside the Horseshoe Way HQ of Astral. I'm quickly informed that Stu Ferguson is now the PD of
CISL. Gerry O'Day has stepped down but will continue with his morning show and music director duties. Stu has been with the
station since last fall selling and booking infomercials as he had done at CFUN before CTV blew it up.

Does this change at the helm signal a change in direction for the only AM station playing music in Vancouver?

'Stepped down'? Is that what they call being shoved/demoted these days?
And your cry baby, whiny-assed opinion would be...?

Is Stu actually the PD or is he the Brand Manager?

Even though I know and like Stu, must still give it the traditional:"serve it up".

I talked with Gerry tonight and he is more than happy to have only two job titles on his new Astral business card.

There will now be a little more time in the day to do the things that Gerry would like to do.

I don't think there is another programmer in the city who has held the title for as long as Gerry has.

Congrats to Stu on getting back into the music radio biz!

I wish Stu well with the new job.

Before Stu hit the big time, I used to critique his airchecks and shows when I flew for Air North in Whitehorse after having left CFUN to pursue my second career in aviation. My then wife Charmaine (also ex-CFUN) worked for the news dept, and I came in and did the "Saturday Night Sockhop" for a lark.....and played zero ... hear me ... zero Cancon unless I felt "the hit factor" warranted it. That was my deal to do the show, and had a ball doing it.

Stu ended up in Winnipeg as a temporary roomie with another of my "mentored talent discoveries" ..... Trucker Tim Bradley, working for the CHUM organization back in the truly good old days of the company.

Ah yes, that was the house on Rita Street, west of Polo Park a couple blocks north of Portage Avenue.
I was a frequent visitor to that storied and joyous residence, as was Lee Marshall who went on to greater things later (and still today) in Toronto.
I also have nothing but good things to say about Stu and wish him great success.
Compared to big business corporate radio, there at CISL, he might actually be allowed to do some real programming.
God writes a lot of comedy... the trouble is, he's stuck with so many bad actors who don't know how to play funny.

What's the chances of Hollywood Stu Ferguson returning to the air?

Congratulations to both Gerry and Stu.

Perhaps Stu can now arrange for some contra at Swiss Chalet and munch on all the dark meat he wants.
Or was it all-white, Stu.

One of the very best talented lads in the business.

Regards,

Rob Collins
