I shall take these numbers with a grain of salt. CBC from a 5.8 to a 9? Gimme a break. It also looks like some News1130 staffers got meters too.

What a goddamn disgrace FUN FM is.

I hope Paul Ski and crew have a new plan.

Merry Christmas Murray, hope you enjoy your next gig in North Battleford!

The 25-54 numbers paint a much MUCH more sobering picture for stations like ROCK 101, QMFM, and FUN FM. What's also interesting to me is the increases for AM radio. CBC 1, News 1130, Team 1040 all had decent jumps. Even the traffic station had a little bump. BBM needs to get their panel right...and free of land line dependence.

Radiofan didn't post them but the numbers that came out a month ago actually showed the monster jump for CBU .. to 8.9.

One can assume that the rotating PPM sample suddenly took in a few more devoted fans of the Mother Corp.

Given that CBC listeners tune in, on average, 25 hours a day - that's all it takes.

Ah, don't break the bubble! I was going to suggest it was the ghost of the late Chuck Davis, the first announcer since the advent to television to give CBC Radio halfway decent ratings in Vancouver in Afternoon Drive.

If you were to read properly Yesterdaze, you'd notice the ratings info on here is each 3 month ratings period for the past 15 months. The monthly trends aren't included.

As for CBC, their numbers seem to have corrected themselves and they are now back where they were prior to PPM and their sudden drop.

I do not think changing to christmas music was a good idea for qmfm and funfm.

Wait for the next survey. Going early gets you a brief dip, but is more than made up for later.

hey Aaron... questions for you if you have the know.

Is being middle of the road classic hits (like Fun FMs Jack 2 playlist) better than an Oldies FM? I can't imagine Fun FM ever being a dominate 25-54 with their feel good hits of the 80s considering the other dominate players. But is 2nd, or 3rd or 4th place better than crushing at another demo? Could a true Oldies FM be a dominate player?

I see how Capital FM does in Edmonton, and it just seems to make sense that that would work in Vancouver and Victoria. Must be kryptonite, or someone would do it.

I personally believe that a true oldies on FM is the better option, *especially* if you have JACK as a sister-station. I think that the agencies will eventually realize that the boomers won't just stop spending money when they turn 55 like previous generations.

Doing "Jack2" is getting them just that: A Jack P2 audience.

For something other than the ridiculous 2+ numbers, go here.

http://www.broadcastermagazine.com/issu ... 1000395805

Then you can really see why some of these stations that seem so successful are really in trouble, such as Rock 101.
If you're not hitting with the "dollar demo," it's time to change.

That has always been my thought. With Rogers already having Jack and News 1130... I'd think a great Oldies FM would be a further compliment and dreadnaught to wage war on the other clusters. Fun is basically a Jack 2 (with old Jack DJs and everything!).
