Coincidentally, I was noticing in this morning's Today in History, charts section, that Big Daddy is mentioned twice directly. And a third time, indirectly.
He is pictured and mentioned here:
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=9384&p=12804900#p12804900on what I'm guessing is his first appearance on a KOL chart. As Dave told me, he was hired from KYNO for AM Drive by a PD who quit a month after Dave arrived, and Dave became the new PD. His first act was move himself to middays. Since this shows him as AM Drive, this would be his first month at KOL.
That KOL PD, by the way, was, to the best of my knowledge, Buzz Barr, who died yesterday.
Above that, you'll see the CFUN chart from this day in 1961. As well as mentioning Dave in the list of DJs, the chart also marks the first anniversary of the C-FUNtastic 50 by re-printing the Top 10 from one year previous. From everything I've heard and read, Dave was the one behind creating CFUN's chart in the first place.
As I've said before, Dave's voice was that of the first DJ I ever heard when I started listening to Top 40 radio in early 1962. Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Dave!
