Love the idea of Boomer Radio
How about this------
For the boomers - a "this day in history" concept.
The top 40,jingles, news, sports and even weather from this date in 196? say. Everything (but the ads) is from this day in 1965 say.
It would be like turning back the clock, only re-living it. Non-stop living in the past if you will.
A concept not unlike the "Cruisin series of LP's sold in the 70's of re-created radio shows from 1955-1968

Hi kiddies and pals! Ol' Buzzkiller here.
Note to 78rpm: Actually CHUM tried to stay on the air with that very concept. The whole day was a flashback. Didn't work. CHUM's gone. Dead and buried. Couldn't even cut it as an "oldies" station. Didn't really give it the ol' college try either - even though they thought they did.

Spent my teenage years listening to "Jungle" Jay Nelson, Brian Skinner (my fave), Bob MacAdory on CHUM. That was radio. The personality was king.

Indeed, Personality was King - had to be as everybody else in the competition were playing the same tunes. BoB Mac was over at C-JOY (Guelph) just as I was getting in as a cub, library sweeper-upper. Strange how that one dynamic got tossed or lost overboard during the storms (of easier profits).
And yes, the guys you mentioned were very, very clever performers.
Wrote their own stuff, too! Imagine that!

Hey GARY baby: Thanks for thinking of me in your 'dream' lineup.

We may be getting a tad older, but, the voice and spirit are still young. Just a little more seasoned.

I was most comfortable with afternoon drive at LG for the year that I was doing that shift of all shifts on LG. Jeff Rechner came in after me. So, IF I came back, it would be PM drive. I'd give a station a run for the money if the numbers ($) were right. We held it at No. 1 solidly 18-49 in the day, but, I also thank the Morning Zoo for bringing 'em (the listeners)in. I don't do mornings. giggle giggle Ever. I can't even imagine getting up at 4:30 or 5:00am. My brother Jesse Dylan can do that sleep walking, not me.

Terry Reid would probably play as well. That was sweet of you to think of us. Meow! I hope life is treating you kindly, Gary.

As time goes on however, we realize just how important it is to PLAY and live in a desirable area. Location, Location, Location...Kelowna is a great market for that as well.

Love ya dude,

Rita Woodman

While you may have liked afternoon shifts the best, Rita, it was your evening show that I loved. Was always great listening to you on the other side of the Rockies in the mid-'80s.

And don't get me started on those "Oh so . . . Savanah" ads you did. :)

Ha ha ha ...that's sweet of you CHED boy. You know? I really miss the days of Personality Radio as well. Back in the late 60's, we used to listen to KHJ with Charlie, who also went by the name of Chuck Tuna.
My dad was on the air at KDAY in LA at the time, but we all listened to Charlie as he was so incredibly cool, quick witted and loaded with that personality, and the 'Wolfman'?

CHUM too was amazing in the day. Bobby Magee, The Bear, John Majhor (that guy was so hot, so nice, couldn't believe it when he died) Jim Van Horne, Roger Ashby, JD Roberts, Jeannie Becker, Terry Steele and there I was, way too young (only 8 months on air total) to be at that station and as their first female DJ. I came back home with my tail between my legs and it was Don Schafer that picked up the broken pieces. (CFOX) He was one of those great mentors who'd been there and done it like us.

Sure, there were the A-holes in management that didn't understand us, and that resented announcers that were capable of big ratings and big personalities, but overall? It's inspirational to ponder just how many people have helped us out along the way by being our Mentors, Listeners, Friends, Consultants, Peers and Bosses, that really did care. We all knew someone who had our backs and were our cheerleaders. Someone was there to help bring out our better selves. Good grief, I'm starting to sound like Dr. Phil...wtf

This is a cool site. I wish there were some 'names' behind these Avatars.

Rita - a lot of us know who is behind the avatars, but want to make sure we don't step on anyone's memories.
You were killer on the air, and although we crossed paths only a few times (because I was a CFUN dude) - you were always charming, fun, and really a blast.
It must be those Woodman genes.
Many sweet memories.
Welcome. Stick around.
Easy way to find out who is who - drop a private note.

Cheers, and all the best from Rain city.

We loved kicking it, and you were lucky you never did Mornings. I did em long enough to destroy my health and any semblance of sleep patterns.
Terry Reid?
I worked with Terry at CFRA and he is not only supremely talented, he is one of the finest people I ever met.
You have good taste, kiddo.
