Well well well.
Making direct comparisons from a year ago...

NW about the same.
The days of All-news seem to be done ... and I use that phrase lightly as there is very little 'news' content these days as the people in charge seem to think smart people in Vancouver need infotainment from those fresh out of broadcasting school, on the radio. Ya get what ya pay for.
Nice jump for JR!
Sonic seems to be getting some traction, perhaps at the expense of the Beat.
The Team suffers without hockey. (Does anyone else?)
Houston, We're dealing with morons!.

Nice steady climb for CBC 1, beating CKNW by nearly a share. What happened to News 1130?

NW's numbers are fortified by the male demo steering away form the TEAM during the lockout. Check it this time next year and 1040 will be three points higher mostly at the expense of NW.

I'll tell you what happened to News 1130: The internet. If you get custom tailored headlines via social media feeds (including News 1130) why would you not listen to music on your way home after getting your news at your work desk or smartphone? Also. many folks are making the switch to CBC simply because there are no set stops which allows for better regional coverage of just about everything.

Not sure why Toronto is so different. All News CFTR is a consistent 7.6-7.8 over the last 15 months.

Yes, CBC Radio One is currently 8.7 there.

The ratings drop matches 1130s adding of a stop set at the 5 minute mark instead of starting each half hour with 10 minutes of news. Greed getting the better of them.

Some of 1130's problems are due to reception.
The signal, especially downtown, has become worse and worse, unlistenable in some areas due to massive interference.
It's almost as bad as 980 now.
When your reputation is built mostly on traffic and you can't hear it in the car, then you're in big trouble.
Add to that the increasingly amateurish presentation and the focus on "infotainment," they are losing ground.
And again, as is pointed out every time the ratings are published, these numbers are NOT the ones that count.
You need the "money" demo to figure out who's actually winning the race.

David Bray has this to say:

Vancouver: CBC Radio One grabs the #1 spot for A12+ with an 11.4% share of hours tuned (up from 10.6% last time out). Taking the top spot for F25-54 was perennial office station favourite 103.5QM-FM, posting a 13.4% share (down from 17.3% last time out). The Beat 94.5 holds the lead with M25-54 listeners, delivering a 10.4% share (down from 12.0%) followed closely by Virgin 95.3 with a 10.3% share (up from 9.5%). The FOX is out in front for M18-34 with a 16.5% share of hrs. tuned (down from 18.9%). When it comes to Females 18-34, JR Country takes top spot with a 13.0% share.

I must say I'm one of those who has added CBC Radio 1 to his car radio presets in the past month or so, mostly for the bottom of the hr BC news for the morning commute. I agree to the "infotainment" news tune out factor for NEWS1130. NW needs to get some better "cutting edge" hotliners and find some "hard news reporters" like George Garrett to up their numbers.

The biggest one for me is JRFM. How on earth do they go up as quickly as they did from even 2 years ago? There haven't been that many changes. This is happening at the same time the company is gassing people out the door. Seems to me that the BBM panel has changed, and a couple of those newbies are Country folk. No other way of explaining it.

Would much rather see 25-54 mind you to get the proper story.

I'd love to hear some professionals on the air at CKWX. Instead, we have people that haven't a clue. Why? C H E A P and disposable.

Radio used to be a career - now it's a poorly paid Mcjob.

Would an entry level wage of $16.75/hour at the Lloydminster MacDonalds in 2006 count?

Curious, what does a radio entry level McJob pay these days? Anybody know?

Hi HBT:

True. I didn’t think you were counting. I will have to change up the verbiage, so you don’t get your knickers in a knot.

Sorry if I repeat myself.

I will try to do better, so you don’t have to keep track of my posts.

Have a great day! :groovy:
