KZIZ 1560 flips to smooth jazz

Postby skyvalleyradio » Sat May 25, 2013 12:02 pm

Smooth jazz is back in parts of the Seattle-Tacoma metro, albeit on AM. Bennett Broadcasting's satellite gear finally arrived and they've changed the format at KZIZ 1560 to smooth jazz. The gospel format is now on KRIZ 1420 with a few blocks of soul oldies/blues as well. On their website, click on the KZIZ Gospel link for the new format, click on the KRIZ Oldies link for the gospel format. They put zero effort into their website, so the links may not get changed for awhile! Smooth jazz on AM will be a tough sell - good luck to Chris & Gloria Bennett and their small, but dedicated team at KRIZ/KZIZ & KYIZ :yahoo:

Smooth Jazz on FM was a tough sell.

That's probably the main reason it's an abandoned format today.

Poor Kenny G.
Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

Another fun coincidence. The only other Washington State station on the frequency used to be Smooth Jazz, too.

They are now running Spanish religion as KVAN -- not sure the call letters when I heard them 6-7 years back -- but dominated the frequency here in Edmonton at night in their Smooth Jazz days. They really tweaked the audio chain to give a killer bass line on so many of the Smooth Jazz instrumentals that are heavy on bass.

KVAN is in the little town of Burbank, right beside the tri-cities of Kennewick, Richland and Pasco, near the Oregon border in Eastern Washington.

jon - I've managed to hear KVAN 1560 riding over KZIZ several winters back and was floored to hear smooth jazz on the frequency. KVAN was strong enough for long enough to guess it was simulcasting KOHO 101.1 which was a smooth jazz station at the time. Odd, considering Leavenworth is quite a bit north of the Tri-Cities market, where KVAN is located.

Several years ago I found the smooth jazz station in the Seattle area to be boring, too much of the same.

Bright minute was at Christmas, they played Dave Koz' version of Walking in a Winter Wonderland (marvelous saxophone playing backed by a country guitar).
