Golden West's Mix 104 CKVX Kindersley/Rosetown is now in testing mode with it's new 100,000 signal.

104.9 fm in Kindersley has become available to a much larger audience. Golden West has received approval from the Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission to boost the signal from 50 watts to 100,000 watts. Company President Lyndon Friesen says the old transmitter covered only the community of Kindersley. And he adds, while the station has been well supported, the signal will now travel much further.

"We were just thrilled when the commission gave us approval to finally bring to Kindersley, a full power radio station. We had hoped for many years that we could do this and that day has come. So Kindersley and area is going to have one of the strongest, biggest, clear FM signals in the whole province. We're just delighted to be able to bring this little community station, that I think has done very well, to a full power station."

Friesen says the expanded signal means the station can serve more listeners and customers.

"We're going to focus on those communities that are the nearest to Kindersley and Rosetown. But there are communities, an example would be Unity, that are really going to be able to enjoy this big signal. All those communities around the region of west-central Saskatchewan will be able to listen to this station."

Friesen says they are still busy fine-tuning the transmitter and anyone experiencing interference from the new signal is asked to call the station.

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

This is a great move and a much needed service for many of the rural areas across this region. Congratulations Golden West!
