Wouldn't It Be Funny If...

Postby PicturesForYourEars » Sat Aug 26, 2017 12:09 am

I had a strange dream large night regarding the shutdown of our old "C-ISL Sunshine Radio":

1410 decides to pick up the oldies format from the demise of CISL and starts playing music again.
Why not!!!

And
Hollywood Stu goes ... BACK!

Stranger things have happened.

Also,
I've been wondering if anybody can tell me WHY 104.3 "switch to us" promos haven't been saturating the CISL airwaves...

Oh yeah... with all the positive things you've had to say about the state of radio, someone will jump at that opportunity. :violent1:

Or maybe somebody will finally wisen up, agree that radio has forgotten the basics and needs the veterans back.

Tom and his generation of broadcasters knew how to entertain and inform. They delivered by putting on a show, every time and didn't just pull a shift.

2 reasons: Even as it winds down its format, the station is owned by Rogers. 104.3 competes with JACK.

Also, migrating 650 audience to 104.3 would shift their numbers to a higher proportion of 55+

Rogers has both the CFUN and CKLG call letters planted in communities up the Sunshine Coast. CFUN is in Sechelt and CKLG is in Pender Harbour. Both stations operate on 104.7 with 350 watts and simulcast "Mountain FM" CISQ 107.1 in Squamish. I bet Rogers would be willing to give those call letters up for a price.

Even if Bell flips 1410 to oldies (which they should), they don't, as a company, seem to care about call-letters. Can't think of a single instance where they've changed them to reflect a new brand or format.

Yes that is true Aaron, Bell doesn't give a damn about call letters. However if Bell were to flip 1410 to Oldies it would only make sense to brand the station as CFUN. There are enough of us old farts left who grew up listening to CFUN that I'm sure the station would end up in a lot healthier position than the 0.3 it got in the last PPM's.

Stu is a valuable pro. I think you're on to something Aaron. The fact that TSN radio is going to hemmorage money, and without the need for a 2nd all-sports set-up, you'd have to think that the paid programming formula Stu was so good at will find its way to 1410. Oldies would be great. At least a 2 share which is better than what's there now.

Rogers has CFUN-FM and CKLG-FM. But Bell would take CFUN potentially for their AM Station. Are the calls not different AM to FM?
