Today's Can-Con 45 is from 1985 ... Idle Eyes and "Tokyo Rose" ...

Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who couldn't hear the music.

When this first aired, back in the day, I was gobsmacked to learn it was NOT Men At Work. Maybe the producer should have persuaded Idle leader Tad Campbell to sing it a bit differently to avoid being dissed, by some, as a Canadian clone of the Aussie chart toppers.

Japan exerted quite a pull on Canuck musicians in the '80s. Bruce Cockburn vividly chronicled his trip to Tokyo with the same-named single. Vancouver alt-folkie Joe Mock (Pied Pumpkin, Mock Duck) moved over there. Vancouver punksters Pointed Sticks remained so popular to Japanese fans that they reunited 20 years after splitting up.

In recent years, Tokyo Police Club have emerged from Eastern Canada.

My first thoughts run to "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors and Alphaville's "Big In Japan." And before that, there was "Cheap Trick at Budokan."

And keep in mind, Spinal Tap's "Sex Farm" was also a big hit in Japan.
