He's not and I am not, so it's moot - but your comments are confusing as usual, other than I find it Interesting that someone in your position would apparently support someone that has participated in the child porn industry.

I recall this young man being quite the future radio talent a few years ago on the other radio board that got his start in Merritt. At this point, I can only hope this young man follows through with the therapy he needs so that he can close this sad chapter in his life and move forward with his life.

There are no winners here - Mr. McDerment will have a hard time in prison - He'll most likely be on a unit for sexual offenders to protect him from the rest of the inmates.

His family will be devastated by the situation - Each time they see or hear the story their gut will twist and the devastation will be new all over again. whether or they they support him, they will be going through their own personal hell. When they are in a public place they will most likely feel that others are talking behind their backs.

The youngsters and their families will have a hard time recovering from what they have experienced - Hopefully there will be counseling and other supports for them.

Personally I have to think "There but for the grace of God go I" and hope for the best for all concerned.

According to the article quoted earlier today, he is already out and about in Kamloops with no more prison time to be faced, unless he re-offends.

I think a lot more people being jailed should instead be found Not Guilty for Reasons of Insanity or whatever the politically correct term is these days. I don't agree that it should be a Get Out of Jail Free Card.

I like the old approach of having two streams for those who break the law. The Sane get an appropriate jail term that suits the crime and their criminal history. The Insane are stuck in a secure mental facility for the rest of their life, unless it can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt that they are cured and very unlikely to re-offend.

That is the only way I know to protect the rest of us. As it sits now, the insane are imprisoned and allowed to refuse treatment, then being released at the end of their sentence, almost guaranteed to re-offend.

It's absolutely appalling that people would feel sympathy for a pervert like this. I've got a young kid of my own and if this happened to my child, you'd have to rip me away from the guy who did it.

And saying that maybe Jamie should go do some hard labour and get rid of his "demons" is ridiculous. This isn't a "demon". It's pedophilia. It's disgusting and he should be locked up for years and years. And so should Bencze.

Beyond the disgusting and despicable behaviours of these individuals, there is an even more important issue being demonstrated here. That being: The complete failure of The Psychology/Psychiatric Industry in providing worthwhile treatment regimens both before and after these activities take place. Drugging an individual into oblivion is not "treatment". It's punishment so gross as to filed under "torture".

I just do not understand why people such as Jamie do not understand that this is just plain morally WRONG. Especially for his seeming up and coming profile in radio. He certainly had a lot of enthusiasm several years ago. I do not believe this is treatable. That "demon" will always be there.. in the back of his mind... waiting for the moment to break free.... or not be caught. Certain offences should be mandatory life sentences... paedophilia is most certainly one of them. This is completely inexcusable, morally wrong and a 100% slap in the face of our society. Lock this freak up and get him away from my kids...

I've always found it insulting to real radio people that the talent challenged Jamie is referred to as a "Radio Personality". At best, he was a glorified board op. Maybe a broadcast wannabe.
